Sunshine, Rainbows and Cupcakes

Little Miss Sunshine had her first birthday and Alley Cat and I were honored to do the cake.  We did a sunshine cake we took from a sunflower cake from a Martha Stewart magazine.

Alley Cat freehanded the smash cake topper out of candy melts.

We decided to spice up the cupcakes by making them rainbow cupcakes.  Six hours later, 75 cupcakes were done.  It takes a lot of work to layer all of those colors.

They looked so pretty.  The rainbow effect did make the prettiest smash cake and great pictures of Little Miss Sunshine eating it too!

How on earth do you layer cake so that it looks like a rainbow? Looks like magic to me!!

It is magic…in the shape of food coloring that you put into the cake batter! Picture 5 bowls of different colored cake batter that you layer teaspoon by teaspoon. I kind of wish it was magic!? 🙂
